What is it? Every year, we coordinate with PAL and when the invitations to the PAL Graduation Dinner are sent out, PAL also sends out our “Prepare-A-Youth” wish-list. Graduating seniors just list 5 things that would help make their lives a little easier once they graduate and/or leave care, and we will do our best to fill that “wish list”. In the past we have provided printers, microwaves, clothes and shoes, to name just a few things. (No, sadly, we cannot provided cars but some have asked!)
Why do we do it? Unlike young people leaving their own homes to venture out into the world, youths in foster care don't always have that little bit of extra support that says "you've done well, we care about you and we want you to succeed". Prepare-A-Youth is just our way of saying "good for you and all you've accomplished; we wish you all the best; here's a little token of our support". The young people who have participated in Prepare-A-Youth so far have been very grateful for that little extra pat on the back that says we truly care.
